Cadillac has been working on self-driving car technology since the late 1950s. It is only recently that breakthroughs have been made using radar sensors a cameras to turn things like Adaptive Cruise Control into a system that can drive the vehicle without human assistance. The 1959 Cadillac Cyclone concept car featured a radar operated crash avoidance system with mounted sensors on the front of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the car was too far ahead of its time. According to automobile experts, the technology is the easy part, it’s the acceptance from the masses that’s the hard part.
Though most of the big auto manufacturers are working on incorporating this technology into their vehicles, it’s Cadillac that will produce the best in self-driving technology. They’ve been working hard on the technology for many years and now have the gateway into trend with the acceptance of Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses the same sensor system to drive the vehicle on the highway.
