Cadillac has recently announced the debut of their new Cadillac ELR Electric which will be shown for the first time during the 2013 International Auto Show in Detroit on January 15th.  Production of the vehicle will begin during 2013, though official pricing and trim lines have not been announced.

This electric Cadillac is powered by an extended-range electric powertrain with a body based from the design of the Cadillac Converj Concept (pictured below).  The Converj is similar to the look of the 2013 Cadillac XTS which has a sporty and sophisticated exterior.  Expect the new ELR Electric to be a nice blend of these two models.

The powertrain is unique in that it has a four-cylinder engine generator which powers the car so it does not need the gasoline to power itself.  It will be equiped with a T-shaped lithium-ion battery and will use the generator as a range-extender which should show some impressive pure-electric miles.
