Earlier today, Cadillac released a “spy shot” of the brand new upcoming 2014 Cadillac ELR as it was taken on a testing joy ride near the beach. It was released as a teaser image to keep interest piqued before the big reveal during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The new Cadillac ELR looks very similar to the 2013 Cadillac CTS Coupe, but has the distinction of being the first production model electrified vehicle produced by Cadillac. Though it is still in concept form, we are assured the production version will be at least 90% similar.

Though the specifics will not be known until the Detroit Auto Show, is is likely the new ELR will be powered by the combined efforts of a 16kW lithium-ion battery pack and a 2.0-liter, range-extending gas engine. The ELR is based on the Cadillac Converj concept, revealed in 2009 and set for production in 2011.
